Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Headset Speaker Problem

Label: , , ,

Finally the official solution or better more just straight-up to those who found the world famous fastidiosissimo audio problem in conversation, due to a faulty headset speaker on this Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Proceed in an orderly manner.

For a long known problem, discussed it here and we tried to explore the assumptions and conclusions. This is a very bad sound quality, very noisy, with a volume of his voice wavering until the total disappearance of it. All who experienced, some less, attributed the problem to a chassis of bad design, or just to happy to lay and not only to set the headset in capsule loggia. Thus it was assumed that the problem was caused by a dislocation headset with the loss of proper contact. It then tried to solve with what was reported in the previous post, I had published one of the nature of the problem, as the first advising hold service centers. However not all service centers have proved for the problem resolved and now we can understand the why. We come to this:
Eldar Murtazin, Mobile-review, not a simple blogger, but one that can first of all, having found the problem, it is with a careful analysis of technical and scientific issue venendone full head. Basically this is oxidation of the contacts that the speaker is found or it emerges on all devices are exposed to a moisture content of 65% (extremely common in many regions including Italy). 100% of the devices produced before February is susceptible to the problem because all the devices have been subject to the same or better headset from the same manufacturer. The procedure outlined in the previous post only temporarily solve the problem as due to the manual is going to move the layer of oxidation.

In what follows it will be revealed and you have no more questions, however evincerà:
The Nokia had long been aware of the problem and was going with the search of the solution, and now finally admitting the problem correctly.

  • If the device is brought into service before 21 January, it is necessary to return again because of new discoveries and the new plan.
  • If the repair (to be replaced the headset with a product from a different supplier) was made or done after 21 January there should be no problem.
  • If the device you buy has been produced in February should be free from the problem. To know the production date, however, we must communicate the IMEI to a service center. The IMEI is printed on the box of the product.

However I am not aware of the degree of progress of the "recovery plan" at the National Network. I hope that all the centers, and more children are now able to provide appropriate assistance in this regard. To this I would like to receive your feeds and report your experiences at the various centers. The recovery operation is not complicated and does not require much time.

As for a possible purchase more or less, says Eldar, to April, you should be sure that all stores will be supplied with the new devices are exempt from the problem.

"We have investigated about the defective headset on the Nokia 5800, also by analyzing the user feedback from the beginning of December. For me this was exciting in many respects: 1) I was able to find a meeting point for the rights and terms of warranty and the device, 2) I was able to design a framework of hardware and software defects present on this device. Now let's deal with software problems, since they are also very easy to be solved with future firmware updates, rather a hardware problem requires a hospitalization of the device by the user at a service center and this is much more delicate. In addition, there are no cases involving this issue and would like to tell you more about its nature.

Before you begin we would like to tell you that starting from December, we opened more than ten units of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for sale to retail. Basically we put these devices in a series of tests and experiments, research on the nature of the fault. Un po 'one might ask whether the appropriate number of devices tested to arrive at any conclusion, to a point not to have more budget to spend on the experiment, but no matter how many phones we seek, the end result is always the same. The same defect occurs in all similar circumstances and in all units, without exception, including the repairs that were made to Nokia service centers.

History

The main problem that many users complain about is the top-right corner of cover that tends to loosen over time and that apparently causes the disappearance headset, like a ghost, or at least this is beginning to make noises scricchilanti and vary the volume audio during a call.
At first we thought acchitto to only one reason for both defects, assuming a loss of taken by the coating, allowing the headset to slip several millimeters below the original position. Omitting the details, this approach has proved inadequate, since instead of two separate problems because in the course of our experiment led us even in devices that have not had any problems with the coating, however, their headphones were unusable and vice versa.
The right angle of the phone tends to allantoic due to a slight displacement of the screw. This design flaw is a characteristic of most of the 5800 XM. However, it is rather an unpleasant thing in terms of aesthetics as the surrounding bone structure surrounding the headset does not go anywhere, in the sense that the problem with the chassis of 5800 has absolutely no effect on performance dell'artoparlante .
Undisputed that the problem we have concentrated exclusively all'altoparlante of 5800 and it is here that we managed to get out.

Nokia 5800 Headset

The headset of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is not soldered with the contacts on the frame of the circuits, instead there is added pressure. In fact, the 5800 XpressMusic is not the only phone that uses this design, also most other phones are the Nokia brand. However, the failure rate is not as substantial as that of the 5800 XpressMusic.
As a general rule, you can get a malfunctioning speaker just disassembling the phone and recomposing all without allowing the contact module of the headset as a whole. On this method have stumbled employees of Nokia service center and in truth we are still very preplessi how working in this way we managed to resurrect a 5800 XpressMusic.

This indicates that the problem probably lies in a thin film of oxide that forms on contact and breaks down every time you move. Although the question remains as to why headsets designed similarly found in other phones (like Nokia N85 and Nokia E71) does not suffer this effect, why? But skipping out that these do, like the Nokia 5800, but the number of failures is insignificant.

Between trial and error we have learned that:

* How long the phone can work before you break your ear depends on several factors and this has nothing to do with the failure of right-angle coverage.
* All the headsets have broken contact surfaces rough (we have examined with an electron microscope), as well as what goes on all the points of joining.

* As a rule, the headset works for 5800 of at least one month before disappearing like a ghost.

And now, here's what we discovered during our experiments with different units of the Nokia 5800 for sale at retail. We shot one of them and we have put in a drawer (without using it to call or receive and not allowing anyone to touch it). Then we used one as our main telephone, with no care and without taking any precautions for it. The third unit was placed in a box with a relative humidity of 65% (no condensation), and have regularly made calls with this for 2 weeks (for about 20 minutes a day). We have not done anything with the fourth unit and we have taken as a Nokia N85 (we have put in a box along with a separate headset module) and we regularly made and received calls with this.

The results were incredible to say the least. After two weeks, the third unit in the box had all the symptoms of the problem headset as small furrows on his contacts (even though there seemed changed, we did not have the means to provide a more accurate assessment of this parameter and demonstrate the presence of a film oxide). On the other hand, we have not had any experience problems of sound quality with the Nokia N85 is also the speaker who has spent two weeks in a box showed no signs of creaking and noises. So the conclusion is very simple: the humidity is the main reason behind the problems dell'artoparlante the Nokia 5800 is also 65% (the level that we used in our test), it is not uncommon in many regions. Again, I stress that there was condensation in the box, we found neither on the phone the phone any other sign that has been placed there. The only part of the phone who has suffered damage was the speaker of a 5800 XpressMusic and running, even though the Nokia N85, however, although put to the same type of box, it came out unharmed.

Conclusion: The flaw was found in all functional phone that we put in a box with a rising humidity, our reference sample that was shut down in that box has not shown signs of this problem.

First of all we examined contacts headset, measured their strength (and found that there were no differences between before and after), but we have reached a specific conclusion. The headset that we have two weeks in the box with the N85, it worked perfectly when we pulled out, but when we have a new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic appeared to malfunction after her weeks. In other words, the rate of humidity comes into play only when the phone makes and receives calls, which explains what some people have never had such problems after months of use, because those who do not call or prefer to use external ear (short for you to understand not too exposed to the air) have not been exposed to the problem as a headset users who have spent much time on the phone (especially on the road and with a high moisture content), in which they found the defect much earlier.

Based on what we have taken two ways to solve the problem: the first was to solder the contacts, then to use a siglillante to limit the exposure of the speaker contacts moisture. However none of these methods has led to success, the problem has re-appeared after a little 'more time.

Starting from mid-February service centers have received the rules guarantee as to the speaker of the Nokia 5800 XM in question, for those who were all phones sold in early December and all were repaired. At present there are no cases of return guarantee and according to data provided by retailers and service the rate of malfunction was lowered to the point that revolves around 7%, even better advantage you will probably in the spring to Telephone number sold at the November and early December (counted that we are speaking of here in Russia and I am translating from English).

We tried to understand the nature of this defect and to define more clearly, but we have not had much success. As of January 21, the authorized service centers have received new models of speakers that have a slightly different color, but the same number of particular product.

Answer Official Nokia

Mobile Review has requested information about the defect and received a reply from Viktoria Eremina, Director of Public Relations for Nokia in Europe and Asia. This is the full text of the letter:

All defective earphones have been replaced with units produced by a different manufacturer, for both models in production as well as in warehouses. I want to emphasize that we have not changed the headset model, but only the supplier. You can see that the new units are different from the images

Since the end of January, all the centers are receiving a package with the new earphones and all users with the assurance following have no more problems.

It must be said that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is one of our best products which has the highest priority, so its sales have been monitored by the Center for Research and Development from the first day and once the center has discovered this problem, a representative the center has traveled to Russia to study the problem on the spot.

With the first devices that are returned under warranty we realized the problem and also we found that replacing the headset with one produced by the same supplier, the problem is not resolved. Not recognize the name of the only know that this is all a respect and reputation, whose quality can not be doubted. Unfortunately, no one is immune from this kind of errors.

It is also to take into account that due to the scope of the problem and the work of global reorganization designed by Nokia, the only month that we took to address this problem is a very short time to resolve. Of course, our record sales of this phone in December led to the fact that consumers are ultimately most affected, but we spent a lot of energy and resources into this and we believe that recovery will not be a problem.

Therefore, we would like to assure our customers that are safe for a possible purchase of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic also if you return the device in for repair soon after the end of January, certainly not incapperà again this problem and if you have just found the problem devices purchased in 2008, you can apply for the repair and have the safety of a new headset.
